In the Hot Seat with... Mimi Striplin of The Tiny Tassel

After a year of intimate gatherings, we're ready to emerge colorfully back into the world of holiday parties and who better to help us dress the part than Charleston's own Mimi Striplin.

We sat down with the designer and owner of The Tiny Tassel for our latest edition of In The Hot Seat, where we discussed everything from party looks to hostess gifts and what she's grooving to this holiday season.

Tell us the story behind The Tiny Tassel.

The Tiny Tassel is a jewelry, clothing, and accessories brand inspired by the vibrant colors of Charleston, SC. After launching online in 2015, our flagship store, located on Charleston’s bustling shopping destination Spring Street, opened in March 2021! The Tiny Tassel is your one-stop shop for handmade earrings, bracelets, necklaces, garments, and party goods. Happiness is our core value, so each carefully curated piece is created with those special, everyday moments in mind!

Where did you love of design come from?

I grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and have called Charleston home for the last ten years. I knew I wanted to create something that brought joy and color to the world... and started with a collection of handmade tassel earrings!

What makes a perfect holiday party look?

To me, the perfect holiday party look is something fun and festive but also effortless! And of course, I always add some statement jewelry with a little bit of shimmer.

What is your favorite part of the holiday season?

Decorating (yes our tree is pink if you're wondering!) & this year I'm really excited to spread a little extra joy during our first holiday season in our Flagship store!

What is your go-to drink?

I love a good mocktail — anything citrusy and refreshing.

What food is a must on your holiday table?

Dressing, or as others call it, stuffing ;) + yams

What are you gifting the hostess or foodies on your list this year?

We have so many fun hostess gifts at our shop that I'll definitely be bringing with me to parties this season. One of our signature candles paired with a wick trimmer is definitely a go-to duo, but I also love gifting items from our curated self-care collection!

What are you grooving to when you’re cooking at home?

All the soulful oldies from Aretha and the Temptations and I always love Ariana Grande's Christmas songs!

What Red Clay product are you loving right now?

I'm loving the Spicy Peach Hot Honey — it was the perfect and unexpected touch that I needed on my brussel sprouts and bacon dish!
