We recently had the pleasure of interviewing our of our favorite entrepreneurs, fashion designer Lela Rose. We touched on topics from the many hats she wears (designer of brands Lela Rose AND Pearl by Lela Rose, author of Pret-a-Party, mother, wife), to her fave Cinco de Mayo memories—and then Lela shared this delicious go-to margarita recipe she made for us using Red Clay.
Today is officially Cinco de Mayo! What's your favorite Cinco de Mayo memory?
Mariachi bands and big parties! My husband and I are both Texans, love tequila, and Mexican food. We usually throw a big party but this year while quarantining, we're just going to eat big bowls of queso and drink Red Clay Spicy margaritas by ourselves instead!!!
You were formally trained in painting and sculpture before you entered into the world of fashion. How has that influenced your designs?
I use so much of my sculptor and painting background in what I do, whether it's creating prints and draping fabrics.
Three words you'd use to describe your gorgeous collections?
Feminine, fun, classic.
You're such an inspiration to us and other entrepreneurs. What's one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out?
Follow your dream and don’t give up. It’s a long hard road that really never eases up, but when you really love what you do, it’s worth it.
One fashion piece you can’t live without?
Anything yellow or citrine-my favorite color!
Favorite Red Clay Product?
I LOVE it all but the spicy honey is perfect for salting the rim of your cocktail
Your favorite guilty pleasure?
Tequila. They don’t call me #tequilalela for nothing!
