Fried Chicken & Waffles with a Hot Honey Drizzle
INGREDIENTS
  • 1/4 cup Carolina Hot Sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups Carolima’s Chicken Breader
  • 6 chicken tenders
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3.5 tsp baking powder
  • 2 large eggs, separated 
  • 1.5 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup Carolina Hot Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Red Clay Hot Honey

To wrap up the first month of our Black Food Friday features, Carolima’s shared their recipe for Fried Chicken & Waffles and a Hot Honey Drizzle. ENJOY!!

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. For the Fried Chicken: In a bowl, Combine Carolina Hot Sauce with water. Add 6 chicken tenders and toss. Dredge in Carolima’s Chicken Breader and fry until golden brown.
  2. For the Waffles: In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar and baking powder. In another bowl, lightly beat yolks, and add milk, butter and vanilla. Mix well. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until combined. Beat whites until stiff peaks form, and then fold into the batter. In a preheated waffle iron, add the batter and cook until the waffles are golden brown.
  3. For the Hot Honey Drizzle: In a sauce pan, combine the Carolina Hot Sauce and Hot Honey. Heat on low, just until warm, to mesh flavors. Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Plate waffles and fried chicken, and top with the Red Clay Hot Honey Drizzle.
